Voice of Experience

There will be gross things. There will be posts about equality for race, gender, LGBTQ, polyamory/polyandry, menopause and menstruation, boogers, insects, puns, grandchildren, cats, textiles, ancient artifacts, science, rocks, fandoms, goofiness, and anything else that interests me. There will, in fact, be way too much. You have been warned. Polydilettante.

Oh, I love this an inordinate amount.

This guy covers children’s songs in the style of various artists, and he’s incredible.

I’m weirdly emotional about it?

This is amazing!

This is the exact opposite energy of the “what happens after the camera cuts and you’ve destroyed you labtop for 5 seconds of entertainment”

This guy not only wrote a whole song but dressed up and FILMED it! For what! For 1 and a half seconds of MY entertainment! That must have been HOURS of shooting and editing! I’m touched, this is art

I feel it’s important you all know this is actually a group of five dads, and they started this as a way to entertain their kids. The bands on the band wheel are their favorite bands, while the songs on the songs wheel are their kids’ favorite songs.

Amazing.

i enjoy that every single human’s reaction to penguin is unrestrained delight

And penguins lack large terrestrial predators, so their reaction to humans tends to be, “HELLO STRANGE GIANT PENGUINS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DO YOU HAVE ANY FISH?”

I will reblog this on my deathbed.

Please let him science 🐧

somehow, amazingly, i have hacked the impulse that makes me mindlessly scroll on my phone. it’s not gone but i’ve paired it with a conscious thought process that goes like, “what’s my goal here? i’m looking for entertainment, for information, for something that makes me feel more optimistic and interested in the world i live in…”

and because that kicks in between apps, too, i’m not doomscrolling as much. i’m intentionally seeking out posts or videos or whatever that actually mean something to me. when i’m not satisfied i walk away or pick up a book instead. most subtle yet impactful change i’ve gone through in years

i did not intentionally set out to change this. i’ve just been working on my mindset in general. hey, turns out having a good therapist again helps

thank you to everyone who has liked this post for reminding me to keep up the habit. just caught myself doomscrolling and remembered i have a nice podcast i could be listening to instead

having good habits abt consuming media is really helpful and can do a lot for mental health. it all starts with understanding and awareness.

if youre at like step one. no limits on your consumption, it is ok. it’s not your fault that your brain likes the “brain feel good machine” that is forced on almost all humans. so next time you wanna scroll and escape, do it. just, before you do, ask yourself what made you wanna open the app? what was going on before? were you feeling bad? stressed? do what you want but observe. then when you can do that, do it after scrolling too. do i feel sad rn? did this stress me out? how long was i using the app? how long would’ve been better? once you’re aware of what’s happening and how it affects you it’s way easier to be able to make changes about it.

it makes the process of healthier consumption feel less like a punishment/forced. i used to only allow myself to go on tiktok or ig for a little bit after the day was over, now i don’t have that limit because i don’t feel the need to be on the app all the time. it’s a treat, not a necessity. not being on tt for 6 hours a day isn’t a punishment, it’s an act of self love. and it feels like that too, i’m actively mindful of not spending so much time consuming media that it will ruin my mood when i’m done.

there comes a point in some dudes ceramics careers where they start fucking with glazes so hard they spend their weekends hand digging rare minerals out of a desert deposit or a friend’s multi-acre lot so they can grind them up and put them in a glaze. I know at least three guys that do this.

I also knew this guy derrick who was an absolute beast on the wheel (threw an entire 40pc porcelain serving set w/ cups bowls plates serving dishes and casserole dish in ONE HOUR) who also rented out a backhoe so he could dig clay out of his yard and refine it. Unfortunately it had too many inclusions in it so he had to dilute it with industrially made stuff. when he did that though he found that the clay in his yard, when fired, produced it’s own glossy green glasslike ooze that vitrified during firing. he called it “self glazing clay”, and went back that day to go dig up more. hope hes doing well. I imagine he’s excavated his entire property by now

I think op might be something of a guy themselves. Because of this post, I now know of a guy who has niche experiences with guys who mess with ceramics in ways that I can barely comprehend

This is one of the inherent problems with all crafts. The temptation to experience the whole process from scratch is powerful. Like with fibercrafts, you start with knitting/crochet, and before you know it, you have a flock of sheep.
